The Birmingham Airport Authority (BAA) experienced another successful event on October 9, 2013 with the 12th Annual Golf for Schools. Sponsors made more than $60,000 in commitments and more than 80 golfers participated in the tournament.
A luncheon was provided immediately following the tournament, where BAA Chairwoman Gaynell Hendricks and CEO Al Denson spoke about the importance the golfers' involvement, the donations and the scholarships they fund. Because of the tournament, children from the Birmingham who are successful in a poster and essay contest sponsored by the BAA get to attend Space Camp at the Marshall Space Flight Rocket Center in Huntsville.
During the luncheon, six of the poster and essay contest winners took the podium to express their gratitude to the sponsors for the opportunity to attend Space Camp. They also shared their favorite memories from the experience.
Thank you to our sponsors for making the Birmingham Airport Authority's 12th Annual Golf for Schools tournament a success. With your loyalty and commitment, we can continue to provide enduring enthusiasm for learning in the hearts of airport area students.
"Because of this event, BAA is able to provide more enhanced educational experiences for the Birmingham City School students," Denson said. "We would like to thank our sponsors for their commitments and continuing participation for making the Golf for Schools 2013 tournament such a success."
